Company Background
Badge Supports, LLC, headquartered in Troy, Mich., is the exclusive distributor of the patented Nerd Buster Support®. The company was founded in January 2006 by Edouard Piché, a former automotive engineering manager. Nerd Buster Supports are produced by Plasti-Fab, Inc. of Ferndale, Mich., a company with 50 years of experience manufacturing plastic products.
Drawing on 37 years of engineering experience, Ed Piché had used many badge holders and accessories over the years. He also knew that people who wore pocket protectors were considered to be nerds. However, with the heightened awareness about security following 9/11, many companies were implementing stringent employee guidelines to visibly display photos and ID badges.
Thus, he designed and patented an "invisible" plastic badge support—the Nerd Buster—to protect clothing and orient ID badges for better visibility and security. Neck lanyards and IDs worn at the belt do not always positively orient badges for maximum visibility.
The Nerd Buster currently comes in two different styles, both of which protect the wearer's clothing from wrinkling and tearing and can be easily trimmed to fit most pocket sizes. There is a basic model with no pockets and another with two clear pockets that allows wearers to carry business cards, appointment calendars, notes and other items.
Space is available on both models to imprint artwork, company or product name, or a promotional message. There is also a tab at the top of the support to enable the wearer to attach a service or decorative pin.
